The Trois Etapes To Be Broadcast On Channel 4 & British Eurosport
by Henry Peacock
The gruelling Trois Etapes is back for its second year and this time, terrestrial and satellite viewers will be able to witness the thrill and challenge of the Alps. Teams of amateurs will battle it out under the leadership of pro riders and the television highlights package – to be broadcast on Channel 4 and British Eurosport – will show all the key action.
Watch The Action Unfold
The event, which takes place 26th - 29th July 2013, will see 14 charity teams go head to head over four days of intense racing. Riders will have the opportunity to attack some of the most renowned Alpine stages of the Tour de France and experience the excitement of racing with the full support that a pro would have in a Grand Tour.
With punishing Team Time Trials on each of the four days – which include a flat prologue and three mountain stages – the event incentivises tactical riding as teams compete for prize funds which are donated to their selected charity. Operating as a unit, the seven amateurs and pro rider will have the support of a team car, Directeur Sportif and race radios throughout, but will ultimately need to rely on strategy and pure strength to tackle what for them will be the challenge of a lifetime.
Last year, the event raised $1.7 million for its charity partners, making it the largest pro-am charity cycling event of its kind and one of the greatest in sport. The extensive reach of the highlights in 2013 will ensure that each of the selected charities will gain significant exposure, promoting the important work that they do in a variety of different fields.
A Gruelling Pro-Am Format
The 30-minute highlights package will also showcase the Trois Etapes pro-am format, giving viewers a unique opportunity to follow the stories of determination and goodwill from the amateur riders who have given up their time to train and take part, while committing to raise money for charity.
Former Tour-winner Carlos Sastre will be returning to the Maurienne valley for the event and will be joined by a host of leading pros. These familiar faces from the world of professional cycling will each head up the 14 charity teams, providing expert guidance. The coverage will provide a unique opportunity to compare performance data for the pro riders and amateurs taking part, analysing their efforts as they ride side-by-side through the challenging Alpine playground.
All charity team places have now been allocated for the 2013 edition of the event. This is testament to the fact that the Trois Etapes provides the ultimate pro-am experience.
Broadcast dates and times for the Channel 4 and British Eurosport programmes will be published at a later date.
The programme will be filmed and produced by Cyclevox.
