For the last nine years, the Cheshire Cat sportive has always been held at the end of March, necessitating some serious winter training for anyone looking to open their season with this tough icon of the UK sportive scene.
Nevertheless, the historically changeable weather at this time of year has never been enough to put off eager participants, and thousands of riders still take part each year. In 2015 a sell-out field of 3,000 riders snapped up the places months in advance.
The highlight of the route is the Mow Cop Killer Mile. As the name suggests it's a mile in length and made up of numerous sections that get steeper as you progress, maxing out at a leg-stinging 25%.

However, for the legendary event's tenth anniversary in 2016, organisers KILOTOGO have taken the decision to move the event to a new summer date - Sunday 19 June 2016.
The full KILOTOGO 2016 calendar is yet to be finalised, but other changes will include a move to the first Bank Holiday weekend in May for the Cornwall Tor. The event proved a great success this year thanks to the addition of a new HQ and routes.
The Cornwall Tor is an incredible ride along the Cornish North Atlantic coastline, taking in climbs such as Millook, the Coombe Valley north of Bude, Crackington Haven, Port Issac and Port Quin. Based at the Royal Cornwall Showground at Wadebridge, the area has plenty to offer both on and off the bike - making it an ideal place to spend the long weekend.
Finally, having sold out four months before the event in 2015, the Tour of the Peak - the most popular sportive in Britain's most popular national park - will return in 2016 with stunning climbs including a fully closed-road ascent of Winnat's Pass.

Other marquee climbs include Holme Moss (of 2014 Tour de France fame) and the long, long climb up the Cat 'n' Fiddle. With two routes of 115 and 62-miles, and based from the picturesque town Bakewell in the heart of the Peaks, this event is a worthy highlight of any sportive season.
Dates for your diary:
Cornwall Tor - Sunday 1 May 2016
Tour of the Peak - Sunday 15 May 2016
Cheshire Cat - Sunday 19 June 2016
