The Foundation Rides are the Up and Under Foundation's (www.upandunderfoundation.org) main annual fund raising event and it is hoped that each rider will pledge to raise at least £25 for the charity. In addition to money raised through sponsorship (and there will be a trophy for the person raising the most money), all profits from the event go to the Foundation. These funds enable us to support local youngsters on scout camps and school trips to the Conway Centre (among other things) and, hopefully, to 'change lives through adventure'.
Who
The rides are open to anyone with a road-worthy bike. The only other piece of equipment you need is some sort of trip computer for your bike, so that you can measure the distance you have travelled.
What
This year there are 3 rides on offer:
- 50 km (30 mile) Foundation Ride
- 100 km (60 mile) 'Good Stuff'
- 160 km (100 mile) 'Tough Stuff'
Over the next couple of weeks the plan is to introduce you to each of the individual rides, while this article should give you a general overview.
Where
The rides start from the Up and Under Group HQ on Quakers Coppice in Crewe between 8:00 and 9:30 on Sunday 8th of June.
How
All the riders receive a route sheet (on entry) and a ride card (at the start). The route sheet provides instructions on where to go and the card is used to prove that you followed the route as there are a number of control points to visit where you either get your card stamped or fill in the answer to a question. There are possible café stops en route, but at the end you will receive some well-earned refreshments and a certificate.
