New Strava Live Delivers Real-Time Performance Data for Cyclists
by Nick Gregory
Strava has introduced Strava Live, a mobile innovation that turns a smartphone into a sophisticated cycling computer. A new app update for iOS and Android brings a whole new interface and experience for athletes using their phone to record their activities.
Coupled with new Strava Live Segments on select Garmin devices, Strava Live enhances the real-time experience for athletes, whether they train with a smartphone or GPS device.
Strava Live, available on the latest version of Strava’s award-winning mobile app, delivers immediate motivation to athletes when they need it most: during actual training. A redesigned always-on display provides live performance data, bringing cyclists another step closer to having one device that suits all their needs.
All Strava athletes see an array of live activity averages, while Premium athletes will see a display of current speed, pace and data, plus additional data from paired devices, to rival the best dedicated activity computers.
“More and more Strava athletes are using their phones while riding and running,” says Strava’s Chief Product Officer, Aaron Forth. “In 2014, 87 percent of Strava athletes used their mobile phones to track a ride or run. We’re focused on making mobile a source of motivation for athletes before, during and after their workouts, and Strava Live is a key component of those efforts.”
Beyond real-time metrics – including speed, distance, power, cadence, time and maps – Strava Live provides customisable settings. An optional always-on display and adjustable screen dimmer allow athletes to configure the experience to manage screen brightness and battery life. With a handlebar mount, Strava Live turns a smartphone into a powerful bike computer.
Strava Live is available with the latest version of the Strava’s iOS and Android mobile apps, which can be downloaded at the App Store and Google Play.
Strava Premium members can experience the best of Strava Live with a display of live and current data via GPS and paired devices. Strava Premium athletes, for £3.99 per month (£39.99 per year), receive Strava’s most innovative technology and engaging experience on the platform.
