It has been announced this week that North Wales' event specialists, Always Aim High Events will be organising the UK's longest and possibly toughest one-day cyclosportive. 

This new event, aptly named the Chain Reaction Cycles Etape Xtrem, will be run as part of the famous Snowdonia cycle sportive - the Etape Eryri. Rather than just picking one of the Etape Eryri's three gorgeous routes to ride, Etape Xtrem riders will be required to cycle all three in just 18 hours. This means conquering the 76 mile Canol, then the 103 Mawr followed by the 47 mile Bach routes, taking in the atmospheric festival at the base of Caernarfon Castle after every leg. 

Totaling 226 miles and approximately 4,000m (13,000ft) of climbing, there's perhaps no other one-day sportive this long or this tough in the UK, possibly the world.   

Entries for the Etape Xtrem will be strictly limited to 100, and online registration will open at midday on Monday 1 September. 

The Etape Xtrem and Etape Eryri will take place on Sunday 14 June 2015. Last year's Etape Eryri attracted over 1,500 cyclists to Caernarfon, and the 2015 edition is expected to be even more popular.
