The popular Severn Bridge sportive, now in its fifth year, is being held on Sunday August 30 2015. Following a recent meeting with the Severn Bridge and highways authorities, the organisers of the event have been granted permission to use the closed M48 motorway to cross the Severn Bridge.
The Severn Bridge half marathon takes place on the same day and will use the eastbound carriageway of the motorway, whilst the cyclists will use the westbound carriageway to cross the famous bridge.
Event organiser, Andy Cook said: "The unique opportunity to ride on the closed motorway itself over the Severn Bridge enhances the already great experience of riding over the River Severn and River Wye on the way to the Feed station at Bulwark".
The event starts and finishes with a lap of the world famous Castle Combe motor racing circuit, which has been graced by many of the greats of British motorsport, including Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Stirling Moss and David Coulthard, to name a few.
Each route will be comprehensively signed, with well stocked feed stations out on the route, motorcycle outrider support and First Aid Cover from the team at MediBikes. Mechanical support will also be provided both at the start and at the feed stations. There will also be a support car out on the road.
High5 will be the nutrition partner ensuring that all riders have the chance to fuel efficiently for the day's rides, whichever route they choose. There will also be free hot food at the finish of this famously friendly sportive.
Whilst the riders taking part in the Sportive are out on the road, the Family Cycling Day will take place at the circuit itself. Cyclists young and old can just turn up on the day and ride the smooth traffic-free 2 mile circuit.
The Circuit Challenge will be taking place again where you can see how many laps you can do in the day. In June a total of 460 riders totalled over 7,600 miles in a three hour period as part of an event organised by Chippenham Wheelers for National Bike Week.
Why not get yourself sponsored for a number of laps and raise some funds for charity partner, Help for Heroes? There will be an exhibitor area and British Cycling Go-Ride cycling skills sessions too. Plus the café, ice cream van and bouncy castle!
