Ballot Results Announced for Prudential RideLondon 2014

by Nick Gregory

80,000 eager cyclists will be watching out for the post from tomorrow (Tuesday, 4th February) to find out if they have been successful in winning a place in the second Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100. Part of the Mayor of London's festival of cycling, the Surrey 100 will take place on Sunday, 10th August 2014.

After the success of the inaugural event in 2013, the organisers have increased the number of riders by 50 per cent and 24,000 cyclists are expected to line up at the start in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Last year, 16,293 cyclists - including the Mayor of London - started the event which took riders through the iconic streets of London before heading out to the beautiful countryside and hills of Surrey and then returning to the capital for a spectacular finish on The Mall.

"Even with the 50 per cent increase in riders, we know tens of thousands will be very disappointed not to get a place through the ballot but there are still other ways to get in," said Hugh Brasher, Event Director for Prudential RideLondon. "Many charities, including Bliss, our first Charity of the Year, still have places available in the main event. Entries for the Prudential RideLondon Business Relay, where teams of four cycle approximately 25 miles each, open on Monday 10 February."

The Business Relay is open to teams of four riders (four men, four women or a mixed team of two men and two women) from the same organisation.

British Cycling members still have the chance to get a place in the 100-mile sportive through the British Cycling Club Challenge. This is open to all British Cycling members bar Elite or Category 1 riders. Entries open on Tuesday, 4th March and close on Friday, 21st March. Full details will be emailed to all cycling clubs affiliated to British Cycling.

In its first year, Prudential RideLondon won five national awards, raised a record-breaking £7 million for charity and was broadcast to 106 countries.

The exact route for 2014 is being finalised, but a revised road closure scheme across the route will help limit disruption to residents and businesses.
