Entry for the ever popular, early season sportive, the Cotswold Spring Classic, supporting Against Breast Cancer is due to open at 9am on Wednesday morning (8th November). 2018 will be the tenth edition of the Spring Classic, and the event will once again be supporting Against Breast Cancer, who themselves are celebrating their 25th anniversary.
Starting and finishing in the town of Cirencester, the route boasts a mixture of stunning scenery and some tough climbs to get those early season legs working. With a choice of three well signed routes (54km, 103km and 164km) there really is something for everyone. Each route will be supported by motorcycle outriders, full medical cover (from GWAS Ambulance), mechanical support (from Performance Cycles) and include well stocked feed stations to keep riders energy topped up for the ride ahead. And on your return, you'll be treated to a freshly cooked hot meal and your goodie bag, complete with limited edition medal, back at the event HQ - add in free sports massage for all riders (although we do ask for a donation to Against Breast Cancer!) and it really does add up to superb value for money with the event costing just £28 to enter.
With the event taking place on Easter Monday (2nd April) the organisers have taken advantage of the long weekend, and in 2017 introduced a 4-up team time trial on the Easter Sunday - this is taking place again in 2018, and being expanded further to allow more teams to enter. Entry for this event doesn't open till Wednesday 15th November, so there's still time to get yourself a team of four together - there will only be space for 100 teams of four, so make sure you're ready to get your entry in when it opens in two weeks time.
Organiser Andy Kirk told us "Last year the introduction of the 4-up time trial proved to be a great success, we limited it to just 25 teams to run it as a test event and the feedback we had from all the riders was amazing. And by adding it to the Sunday it's made it more of a weekend of events and also enabled us to offer event sign on the day before the sportive as well. We're looking at how we can add more to the Sunday and Monday for riders, and spectators - watch this space, as there will be more announcements to come soon."
The sportive is limited to just 1000 riders - and since the increase to this number of participants in 2016 the event has continued to sell out well in advance. So don't delay, set yourself a reminder for 9am next Wednesday and make sure you get your entry into the 2018 Cotswold Spring Classic, supporting Against Breast Cancer - and give yourself an early season target that will keep you riding through the winter months. In their 25th year Against Breast Cancer would also like to give a little extra motivation to those winter miles, to try and raise at least £25 towards their ground-breaking research.
