Often featured in Top 5 Late Season sportive lists the Autumn Epic is back to claim its premier spot amongst the increasingly corporate dominated events calendar.

Enthusiasts won't let it die and have banded together to run the classic sportive after a one year break. "This is an original. It set the standard at the start of the UK sportive boom and there's a lot of affection for the Autumn Epic," says new co-ordinator Andy Dawson.

"Yes, lots of events have copied but now its time for riders to have a go at the real classic."

With a number of other well established events falling by the wayside recently, and the rise of numerous small local rides, the sportive season has spread wide and thin.

"The Autumn Epic is different. It's one to train for, to aim to finish your season on and to know you are following in the wheel tracks of thousands of previous participants," says Dawson. "It's the original, epic sportive."
