Trois Etapes Cycling Pro-Am to be Broadcast on Channel 4 This Saturday

The 2013 edition of the Trois Etapes cycling pro-am event will be televised on Channel 4 this Saturday [24th August] at 6.55am and on Channel 4 + 1 at 7.55am. 

The 1-hour documentary follows the 15 charity teams of amateur riders, each with one pro cyclist, as they work together to race for real cash for their chosen charities.

The coverage is presented by Layla Anna-Lee, who is best known as the voice for the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. 

The 2013 event has raised $2.8 Million for charity partners so far. In the in two editions, the event has raised an incredible $4.5 million for charity.

The event included a 5km Prologue and two timed high mountain stages, including Col de l'Iseran, the highest mountain pass in the Alps.

The event is designed to incentivise tactical team riding. Each team of 8 riders (7 amateurs and 1 pro) has its own team car and Directeur Sportif. Every rider has a radio link with their team car and the Race Director.

Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre was one of the pros taking part. He was joined by 14 other team leaders, including former Garmin-Sharp riders Daniel Lloyd, Champion Systems rider Craig Lewis, World Champion Evelyn Stevens, Team MTN Qhubeka's Songezo Jim, Gent-Wevelgem winner Lars Michaelsen, Round The World cyclist Mark Beaumont, Paracycling World Champion Colin Lynch and Madison-Gensis riders Joan Horrach and Liam Holohan. The event's back up and support crew included Bobby Julich, who worked as one of the 15 Directeur Sportifs in radio contact with the riders.

The event has helped raise funds to have a positive impact on the lives of young people from North London to Rwanda, on communities from the Himalayas to Angola and from wounded British service personnel to the families of those battling Prostate Cancer. 

Charities taking part in the event include SHINE, Anne Frank Trust, Right To Play, Walking With The Wounded, Shooting Star CHASE, Prostate Cancer UK, Empower, World Bicycle Relief, 1001 Fontaines and dZi Foundation.
