Morvelo City Cross
Saturday 9th November
The Piece Hall, Halifax

What is City Cross?
The idea is to breakdown all the usual genres of cycle racing to create a visual spectacle, something to engage non-cyclists with the idea that watching cycling is fun, prior to Le Tour visiting Britain next year. City Cross takes the pomp and ceremony of Belgian cyclocross and adds a unique Yorkshire twist.
The inaugural event took place in Shroggs Tip back in March, in conjunction with the ever helpful events and tourism team from Calderdale Council. The buzz was amazing, with people coming from all over the country to race, bring stalls, spectate and have a lovely day out.
This time the City Cross team are being let loose on the grade one listed Piece Hall in the centre of Halifax. The racing is a series of knock out rounds of moto style cyclocross, however, no bike is truly suited to the course - so you can ride what you like. To accompany the event, organisers have tracked down some of the quirkiest caterers they could find, including two Citroen H-vans - Streatza Pizza and The Madeline Express, The Porkery (with their home grown hog-roast) and the award winning Exchange Coffee.
There will be exhibitions from photographers Joolze Dymond and Ed Rollason, art from Rebecca J Kaye, Antony Oram, Claudi and I, WhiteNoSugarTV and limited edition prints from Jo Burt. Shops and stands from Hackney GT, Morvelo, Clif, Lezyne, Hope Technology, Od Designs, CycleGear, Blazing Saddles, Molesey Bicycle Workshop, Victor & Liberty and RedBull will also be present.
A number of bicycle brands will be in attendance, including Saddleback, Felt, Kinesis UK, Feather Cycles, Chickens Frame Emporium, Kinoko Cycles, Grim Cycles and Shed6 Cycles. Commentary on the day will be provided by the legendary Matt 'Fixer' Payne. The CTC mini pump track will be open for the kids, and magicians from Eureka Children's Museum will also be on hand to entertain the little ones.
The racing itself covers all age groups, with separate races for U8, U10, U12, Youth/Junior, Women, V40 women, Novice, Senior Men and V40 men. During the day there are a series of knock out rounds of fast paced racing culminating in the finals from 5.30pm under flood lights. There's also Roller Racing courtesy of South Coast Sprints for anyone to have a go at.
One certainly not to be missed!
