The Great Manchester Cycle returns on Sunday 29th June with 8,000 riders expected to take to the closed roads of the city. With over one month still to go until the event, places for the longest distance of 52-miles have now sold out.

The 52-mile distance has traditionally been the most popular route - attracting many regular and club cyclists who can enjoy the chance to ride on traffic free roads. However, the 52-mile distance is just one of three routes which will be ridden by cyclists of all abilities at the Great Manchester Cycle, and places are still available to take part in the 26 and 13-mile routes. The 13-mile distance is particularly well suited to beginners and families - especially since children under 15 can ride free with an adult.

Starting and finishing at Etihad Campus, the home of Manchester City FC, the 13 and 26-mile circuits offer riders the opportunity to pedal through the closed roads of Manchester city centre and take in the sights from a whole new perspective. The route includes landmarks such as Old Trafford, plus a stretch of the iconic Mancunian Way - a section of motorway normally off-limits to cyclists.

David Hart, Communications Director of event organisers Nova said, "With the Tour de France visiting the North of England just a week after the Great Manchester Cycle, there could hardly be a more exciting time to stage our event as the enthusiasm for cycling in this country reaches fever pitch."

He continued, "Ever since we launched it three years ago, The Great Manchester Cycle has been capturing the imagination of both cycling fans and the general public, and it's great to see that its popularity has continued to grow this year."

With an event village hosting cycle industry exhibitors, charity partners, entertainment and food concessions, the Great Manchester Cycle is set to be a great day out in one of the UK's most passionate sporting cities.

Entry costs £21 for 16+ years across the 13 and 26-mile distances (16 & 17 year-olds must have permission by parent or guardian). Children aged 3 -7 can take part in the 13-mile event only on tag-a-long bike or children's bike trailer/seat. Children aged 8-15 can enter the 13-mile (on their own bike) but must be accompanied by a paying adult.
