"Spartakiada" is Greece's greatest cyclosportive event linking the two most important cities of ancient Greece. In old days professional messengers ran the distance in two days - today we use bicycles to challenge our endurance and cover the distance in 8 to 12 hours only.
The event starts in front of one of the most attractive places in the capital city of Athens, the Panathenaic Stadium or Kallimarmaron, the athletic stadium that hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. The "Spartakiada" finishes after 250 km in the city of Sparta, a prominent city-state in ancient Greece, situated on the banks of the Eurotas River in Laconia, in south-eastern Peloponnese, right in front of the King Leonidas statue. You will ride trough the cities of Korinthos, Tripoli and the beautiful landscape of North-Peloponisos.
The event features a 250 km route with 2511 m of climbing. Comprehensive signage and marshalling on all major junctions insures the safety of the riders. Police escorting is provided at the beginning and the end of the race.
The event is organised by the Panhellenic Bicycle Union of Veteran Athletes. In 2013 reached its highest number of participants since its inception in 1980.
The administration of all international registrations for 2015 will is handled via our page. International participants can either choose to simply register and take care of the travel arrangements themselves or configure the participation package through our web site.
Riders who will finish within a time limitation of 12 hours will be considered as finishers and receive a medal of completion during the evening awards ceremony.
