On 27 September 2015 a fantastic new bike ride from Kilotogo, in partnership with the Railway Children charity, will take place from Ludlow Racecourse. Pedals and Steam will offer two route options of 59 and 85 miles, taking in the very best riding either side of the English/Welsh border.
The event HQ will offer on-site catering and parking, and the fully-stocked feed stations will include a variety of sandwiches, savoury snacks and various cakes; all produced specifically for the event by a family baker.
Starting from Ludlow, both routes take a gentle route north east to Bridgnorth and follow the Severn Valley Railway to Highley before the routes split after the first feed station.
The shorter route then takes a long, slow climb up to the top of Brown Clee Hill before returning to Ludlow. The longer route heads down through the Wye Forest, following the Severn Valley Railway to Bewdley.
From the southern-most point at Martley, the major climbs start with the ascent to Clifton-upon-Teme and the second feed station. The route then continues up the dramatic climb of Cleehill. Both of these big climbs are followed by wonderful descents mixed in with fantastic panoramic views across Shropshire and Herefordshire.
The section from Bridgnorth to Highley, whilst the route follows the beautiful Severn Valley Railway, will be timed to see if riders can beat the time the train takes to do the route. Which is faster, pedals or steam...?
The event will raise money for Railway Children, a leading children’s charity fighting for vulnerable children who live alone at risk on the streets, where they suffer abuse and exploitation.
When you enter the event, you will be given the option to create a 'pre-paid group'. By choosing this option, it will guarantee that your friends can ride too, and won't miss out if the event sells-out.
You won't need to know any personal details at the time of booking other than the route option that they want to ride. After you have booked, an 'E-invite' link will be given to you to send to your friends who can then enter their details at their leisure.
