Great Manchester Cycle Entries Now Open

Nova International are delighted to announce that entries are now open for the 2013 Great Manchester Cycle, which is set to take place on closed roads on Sunday 30th June.


The Ride Starts At The Etihad Stadium

Starting and finishing at Etihad Campus, the home of Manchester City FC, the event will once again feature three different distances and is designed to cater for all abilities, from club cyclists to families who wish to take on the challenge together.

The 2012 event was a resounding success, with a staggering 7,000 riders taking up the challenge. Lizzie Amitstead, who brought home Britain's first medal of the Games last summer in the Women's Road Race, along with former Olympic champion Rebecca Romero were among those to take part in the Great Manchester Cycle, with Armitstead describing the event as "a fantastic day out".

Joining the Olympians on the day were a host of TV celebrities, including Ashes to Ashes actor Dean Andrews, Emmerdale's Tom Lister (Carl King), Tony Audenshaw (Bob Hope) and Rik Makarem (Nikhil Sharma), as well as some of their Corrie rivals including Ryan Thomas (Jason Grimshaw), and Chris Fountain (Tommy Duckworth).


Roads Normally Exclusively For Vehicles Are For Cyclists Only

Jamie Still, Operations Manager at Nova International, said: "We were thrilled with the success of the 2012 event and we are working very hard to ensure this year will be even bigger and better. Following on from the success of Team GB cyclists at the London Games it is not surprising that more people are dusting off their bikes and going out for a ride. The Great Manchester Cycle provides the perfect opportunity to explore the city by bike on the safety of fully closed roads."

The closed road route for the 2013 event differs slightly from last year, and will now see riders take over major trunk roads within Manchester and Trafford. The 13-mile loop will give participants the chance to see the city from a whole new perspective as they ride along roads normally off-limits to cyclists, including a stretch of Manchester's busiest motorway - the iconic Mancunian way.

As per the 2012 event, riders have a choice of three routes: 'A Great Day Out' over 13 miles, 'Rule the Roads' over 26 miles, or for the more established riders 'Break Away from the Pack' over 52 miles.

Entry for each route will cost just £20 for adults and £5 for kids. Children aged 3-7 can take part for free.
