The Blue Giraffe Bicycles "Beast of the North York Moors" ride is our response to requests from riders for an event of similar character to the Lake Districts Fred Whitton Event but over in the North East! The ride will cover 101 challenging miles and pack in almost 7000 feet of climbing into its route.
The route will take in the infamous Rosedale Chimney Bank along with others that feature in Simon Warrens Greatest Cycling Climbs books such as Carlton Bank. The nature of the Moors is that the climbs tend to be relatively short but very steep. You will need to exercise caution on descents as they will be steep and the roads can be a bit rough in places. Starting from our base at Stokesley Town Hall it is Carlton Bank that is the first challenge coming after only a few miles quickly followed by the climb of Clay Bank. The route then heads towards the coast at Saltburn and then south to Whitby. On the outskirts of Whitby the ride then turns west towards the North York Moors and the pretty sand stone villages and stunning scenery. You will head to Slights, Egton and then Cropton on roads that are never flat, before tacking the chain breaker that is Rosedale Chimney. Once you have finished that you will get a little rest before you tackle the climb to Blakey Ridge, which the longest climb of the day. You turn towards Westerdale and the final leg that returns to the start via Kildale and Ingleby Greenhow.
There is parking for 100 cars at the start area. Toilet and changing facilities are available in the Town Hall. There will be technical support available from our qualified mechanic at the start and moto support on route. The route will be fully signed and have a feed station at around half distance. Food and drink available before and after the event.
You can enter on-line at Active.com for £30. Entries will be accepted on the day £35.
