Rating:
Saddleworth Clarion are pleased to present the WIDDOP SADDLEWORTH AUDAX, our 100km hilly Randonnee which takes place on Sunday 13th July 2014, starting at 9.00 am at Denshaw Village Hall, Ripponden Road, Denshaw, Saddleworth, OL3 5SJ. From the Junction Inn on the 5 ways crossroads, this is 150m up the A672 Ripponden road on the right.
After many years in the care of Don Black, Saddleworth Clarion have taken over the running of the Saddleworth Audax series. You will find that we have retained the challenging but rewarding routes that characterized these rides but with the added bonus of the Clubs Best Cake competition for you to help judge at the end which should ensure there is plenty of cake to go round.
A scenic and hilly tour over the Pennines to Wycoller, return by Widdop Moor and then an accent of Cragg Vale as ridden by the Tour de France riders only a week earlier.. With 2500 meters of climbing and 2.5 Audax Altitude points, this is a challenging ride, but there is a generous time allowance for completion. The minimum speed required is 10 kph and the maximum speed allowed is 25 kph.
Brief route details are as follows:
Denshaw, Sowerby Bridge via Buckstones, Luddenden (Info Control), Oxenhope, Wycoller (Cafe), Trawden, Widdop Moor, Mytholmroyd, Cragg Vale, Blackstone Edge (Info Control), Hollingworth Lake, Milnrow, Moorcock, Denshaw.
