The Gold Rush takes you over the drove roads of the Chalke Valley between Salisbury and Shaftesbury to climb the iconic cobbles of Shaftesbury's Gold Hill before returning to Sailsbury Race Course on one of the best gravel track roads in the country! The ride offers full and comprehensive route marking, feed and support stations and electronic rider timing, and there will be hot and cold food, drinks and snacks, plus free Wiggle energy products.
This is perfect CX country - in fact it could have been created for the event. The course area is a natural amphitheatre for your riding pleasure. The tiny river Ebble traces the floor of the valley that forms the backbone of a course which winds you constantly up and downs to the north and south. Ancient drove roads atop each of these downs, along with the narrow valley road, form the main arteries of a route, that will see you tackle several climbs that 20-25%, and also take on the amazing Zig-Zag Hill (officially the hill with the most hairpin bends in the country) in both up and down! And then of course there is Gold Hill - etched into advertising legend as the 'Hovis Hill' this quarter mile of cobbles climbs into Shaftesbury at a calf-popping 1:4 gradient!
The Gold Rush is a must do ride, designed with the new generation of CX bikes in mind. If you haven't caught the CX bug yet, what are you waiting for? You don't know what you're missing!
75, 55 & 38km course options.
