A 1400 km Audax, long-distance cycling event from the far south-

western edge to the far north-eastern corner of the UK mainland at

Randonneur standard!

OVERVIEW

The LEJOG 1400 is a 1402 km cycling event sanctioned by Audax UK, taking place during the week of 26-31 July 2020.

The event is a randonnee, not a race! Those taking part have a maximum of 116 hours & 40 minutes to complete the challenging 1402 km route!

The LEJOG 1400 Audax starts at the headland of Land's End, Cornwall the far south-western part of the UK mainland and finishes at the village of John o' Groats, the far north-eastern corner of the UK mainland. The route will take B-roads and country lanes wherever possible but will also include some limited use of A-roads (particularly in Scotland)!

Riders will be expected to maintain a minimum cycling average speed of 12 kph including any time spent off the bike! The route doesn't follow the most direct route between Cornwall and the Highlands but passes through England; Wales & Scotland.

Controls will be placed at about 50-mile intervals but 4 of the controls (at roughly 290 km intervals) will have adequate eating; showering and sleeping facilities.

Each and every rider will need to make their own way to the start at Land's End and home from John o' Groats again afterwards.

There's some travel advice on the event website (see below).

Eating during the event

A pre-planned buffet will be held the night before the event at a nearby village hall. Free food will be available at the 4 overnight controls. Food & drink will be available for purchase at the intermediate controls (typically shops/cafes).

Showers & sleeping during the event

Showers and basic sleeping facilities will be available at 4 overnight controls (Somerset; Cheshire; Renfrewshire & the Highlands). Ear-plugs will also be provided. All the facilities at the overnight controls are included in the entry fee! Riders who prefer their own privacy are of course free to book their own accommodation anywhere along the route but riders will have to pay for this themselves!

Bag-drop

A drop-bag to 2 of the overnight controls is available. Drop bags must not contain the following items:

  • Liquids (although shower-gel is OK)!
  • Sharp objects
  • Glass bottles
  • Any sharp objects
  • Anything requiring refrigeration

Your drop-bags will be transferred to John o' Groats before Thursday night ready for your arrival.

Equipment

Most riders will likely use a standard road bike. Tandem's, tricycles; elliptiGo's & recumbant's are all permitted providing the machine is propolled solely by human muscular effort. Tri-bars are allowed!
