My first sportif and an amazing introduction to this branch of cycling. As a local I can vouch that the route planning has picked up the best roads in the area and the longest route deserves more entrants. Super slick organisation with an incredibly friendly atmosphere... I will be back.

This was my first ever event (route 3) & I really enjoyed it. I'm 57 & new-ish to the sport of cycling. I found it very tough at times but the day was totally rewarding. The organisation was friendly & professional, the routes were very well signed. We were on quiet roads for the vast amount of the event & I'm very pleased with my over weight, lycra clad, old little self cos I got a silver finish time. I will be back next year hopefully for a gold - give it a go it's great.....if a tad mountainous!

I entered route 3 the 49 mile and Loved it. First time I have entered and would do it again. Scenery was unbeatable ! The route shouldnt be underestimated though, it was very hilly with a very hard major climb at church houses. The feed stop was well located and very well stocked with savoury and sweet all home made and were delicious. Timing system was efficient and easy to use. Certificated at the end were given as soon as you scanned in and no queuing what so ever ! The only thing that surprised me was lack of crowd support. It was non existent at the start and finish. One group of people on the hold route clapped as we went passed. Overall though a superb well organised event ! Great cause too.

Very tough and challenging event that takes full advantage of the attractive N York Moors landscape. Quiet roads throughout. Route highlights [for me] were the several [very] steep climbs and the number of fords to cross. Faultless organisation throughout and good atmosphere makes the event highly recommended.

This is the second time I've done this event (full distance). I enjoyed it last year and think it is tougher than the 8 difficulty rating on this site, especially when I've done others that are rated higher or similarly and they are a walk in the park in relation. I enjoyed the ride and was in good form, topped with nice weather for a day's riding.
Now for my rant, I find it frustrating when the organisers don't listen to your comments. Last year I ran out water between feeds 2 and 3. I posted this issue and had same problem this year and complained directly this year (don't expect any results though). I'm sure there is a point between 2 and 3 where water only can be made available. The feed at 2 had only one water tub and there was a queue when I arrived. This and having to get water from a busy pub prevented me from posting a far better time. Mmmm. I see we are becoming increasingly self-centred, no man waits for anyone. Riding with someone and then not waiting at feeds and sitting on the back when passed is not sporting! If we had ridden together we would have posted the fastest two times. Team work is always produces better results. That's the end of my rant.

Superb event, one of best organised sportive events I have done. Really did justify much higher attendance, I will be back and will bring more friends too next time.

As postcript to an unjustified negative comment listed above, this is NOT a race it is a sportive, if you wish to race then enter a race. As a sportive rider it is possible to achieve your standard times regardless of what facilities may or may not be provided, i.e. be prepared and those facilities that are provided are a bonus. The facilities provided were more than adequate for anyone of the required fitness to achieve their desired (and realisable!) goals.

Fantastically hard, great scenery - second time I've done this and hope it runs again. Struggled a bit for numbers thi year, I don't know why, it's easily the bast sportive in Yorkshire and probably Lancashire & Derby shire too.

Almost a perfect Sportive. Great scenery, friendly support, forebodingly steep climbs, fast descents, Ampleforth Collage all great. Only 2 dislikes were the A170 and the ford after Boltby Bank, but both of these were very minor in all respects but had to be mentioned.

I was on route 2 and the feed stations were perfect in stock, location and speed - absolutely no complaints.

Overall I felt this a friendly well organised event, this was my first cycling event and from this it won't be my last due to the professionalism this event was put together. I have been used to running events until I ruptured my achilies hence taking up cycling in may this year. Since the Ryedale Rumble 71miler I have taken part in the York 100miler. In my opinion both on par with each other but if you want a serious cycling challenge opt for the rydedale rumble, the york 100 miler only had a slight climb. I have recommended the ryedale to others as I felt the organisation and the friendlyness contributed to it's success. The only down side was the website, I felt that the drop down boxes didn't allow you to pick them most of the time unless you were very quick with the mouse.

Thanks again

As with others comments this is a very hard event. I did the short course as this was my first Rumble and found it tough compared to other Sportives I have done eg Big G, Blenheim etc. However it is one I will go back to, the scenery and organisation were fantastic and we need to challenge ourselves so there is nothing wrong with making it tough. It really is an event not to be missed but don't make it your first Sportive unless you are very confident and a "natural"!
