A love for pedal power brings hundreds of riders to Hereford's Livestock Market each year.

The Wheelie Big Cycle takes participants through some of the most scenic parts of the country and for 2018 we have four new routes, including a 100-mile challenge which will take you into Wales and back.

We're also pleased to announce the return of The Wheelie Little Cycle for children.

Route details: (24, 40, 58 & 100 miles):

24 miles (minimum age 9 years) - a perfect challenge for families and friends to do together.

Pre-entry for all distances closes at 12pm on Friday 13th July.
On-the-day entries will incur an additional charge of £5 per entry.
You must read the terms and conditions before registering.
We reserve the right to refuse entry on the day.

The Wheelie Big Cycle has a capacity of 1,000 cyclists.

Detailed below are the entry fee options which apply to all four routes.

Participants raising sponsorship have the option of paying a reduced entry fee.

Adult £30
Adult with cycling jersey: £70

Adult raising sponsorship: £15 plus minimum £60 raised in sponsorship (includes cycling jersey - 3 designs available)

Child entry: £10 (No tag along/trailer bikes allowed)*
* All children under 16-years-old must be accompanied by a paying adult (over 18-years-old) and remain the responsibility of that adult throughout the event.

A selection of cycle jerseys will be available to buy on the day priced £40.

Your entry fee includes:

Medical cover

Event photography

Signed and marshalled route

Water and food stations

Medal at the finish

To enter you must read and accept our Wheelie Big Rules of the Road.

Important: Cyclists are responsible for bringing:

  • At least one spare inner tube (the correct type for your bike),
  • Cycle pump
  • Tyre levers
  • Spare lights and batteries.

Halfords bike maintenance
Bike mechanics, from the Hereford Halfords store, will be on hand to help with minor mechanical issues at the start and finish of the event and will also be available to assist cyclists when out on the routes. Parts and spares can be provided and will be charged at retail price, with all proceeds donated to St Michael's Hospice.

The Wheelie Big Cycle will be photographed and images may be used for publicity.

The 24, 40 60-mile routes will be signed and marshaled.

The 100-mile Wheelie Big Cycle is fully signed, but there will be no event marshals on some parts of the route.

Registration for all routes will be open from 8am. On the day, please ensure that you register no later than 15 minutes before the start of your route to collect your cycle number and event information. Start times for each route are as follows:

  • 100 mile riders - between 8.45am - 9am
  • 58 mile riders - between 9.00am - 9.30am
  • 40 mile riders - between 9.30am - 9.45am
  • 24 mile riders - starts between 10.00am - 10.15am

There will be plenty of places to stop with water and snack stations on all routes.

*Please note, riders will be set off in waves*

Rules of the Road
Cyclists MUST wear a cycle helmet - No helmet = No ride
Cyclists MUST wear UV or bright clothing for the event - Be seen and be safe
Cyclists MUST clearly display the official rider number on their bike
REMEMBER it is not a race.
No tag-along or trailer bikes will be allowed to take part in the event
Be a good advert for cycling and show consideration to other road users - even if they don't respect your space.
NEVER ride more than two abreast and ALWAYS in single file through villages and on narrow roads.
We do not recommend the use of head phones during the event.
The use of Tri-bars and TT bikes is NOT permitted at any time.
DO NOT attempt any dangerous passing.
Keep your distance from other cyclists at all times, as some may be inexperienced.
Don't go mad down hills.
Please signal any intention to turn left or right and don't stop suddenly - there may be cars or other cyclists directly behind you.
NEVER cycle on the pavement or a footpath unless instructed by a Wheelie Big Cycle marshal
SLOW DOWN when passing horses. Indicate of your presence (by bell or calling out) and pass wide on the right. Horses can be dangerous when startled.
Please do not ask friends or family to drive along the course.
Private support vehicles are not allowed on the route during the event, as this could be hazardous for other cyclists and may obstruct emergency vehicles.

Route Clearing
There will be sweep vehicles and cyclists on all routes. Our team will stay behind the last riders and assist any riders who may be having problems. All riders must arrive at the last water/feed station on the Garnons Estate no later than 4.30 pm.


St Michael's Hospice provides all its care free of charge to patients, their families and carers.

This care is made possible by supporters taking part in fundraising events like The Wheelie Big Cycle, shopping at our retail outlets, making charitable donations and leaving gifts in wills.

For people raising sponsorship of £60 or more the entry fee is just £15 and includes a free St Michael's Hospice cycle jersey.

Your free cycling jersey will be available to collect on the day from the information desk. Please bring proof of raising £60 by dropping off your paper sponsorship form with cash/cheques, or showing us your online sponsorship account (on your phone or as a print out).
