TOP 5: UK's Toughest Climbs

When an organiser sits down to plan a sportive, you could be forgiven for thinking that they pull out a map, find the longest, hardest hill in the area, and then plan a loop around this. Actually, looking at most events on the calendar, I think this is what most of those torturous people do. 

With the Tour de France Grand Depart taking place this weekend, the sight of some of professional cycling's best climbers flying up Yorkshire's most spectacular peaks and passes will no doubt raise the already substantial profile of the area as a cyclist's paradise. 

There are dozens and dozens of legendary, lung bursting climbs in the UK, but the following are some of what we regard as the toughest tackled year-in-year-out by sportive riders willing to give it a go. 

Spoiler alert: Norfolk doesn't feature...
